Weaving together Te Āo Māori, permaculture principles and food forest design philosophy, we will investigate how these relate to the UN Sustainable Development Goals and explore innovative ways to promote equity in learning, experience and opportunity.

Join Rita Yosef for this workshop making traditional Challah. Challah is a dairy free plated bread of Ashkenazi Jewish origin baked for the Sabbath. Together Through Bread is a collaborative project setup between A Communal Loaf, Plains FM and Canterbury Workers Educational Association (CWEA) and co-created with a diverse range of Ōtautahi-Christchurch ethnic communities. Each workshop will focus on celebrating a different ethnic group and their cultural traditions associated with bread and food as well as providing a place for conversation, discussion, learning, developing understanding, and connection. The workshops will be recorded as part of a podcast series to be broadcast by PlainsFM.

This hui is an initiative to talk about Universal Design of Learning (UDL), a research-based framework that caters for the needs of learners. UDL is based on inclusive teaching and learning practices, it is designed to remove the barriers from the learning process and make learning more accessible for all. The Uru Mānuka Kāhui Ako, a cluster of schools in the Hornby area, will be celebrating the Joy of Reading during Ako Ōtautahi Learning Days. Term 2 will begin with a renewed daily focus on reading in all classes leading up to the Read-a-thon on 13th May where all students with Drop Everything and Read and celebrate the importance of literacy. Imagine 200 of these students converging at The Hub, Hornby to read together and share books from around the world. All ages celebrating together and you are invited to join them. The Riccarton community is poised to take action to improve biodiversity in backyards and greenspaces throughout the suburb. Login to this virtual panel discussion where we will be talking about a plan to trap predators in backyards, reserves and the UC campus, but also other initiatives aimed at enhancing biodiversity in the area. Attendees can also learn what biodiversity values exist in urban areas and how they can get involved in protecting and enhancing these values.

Let’s see what kind of cardboard city we can make together. Come and make a house or building using only cardboard, glue and a black pen! You can stack them on top of each other or join them to a friend's creations and start to make a city!

The Arts Centre Te Matatiki Toi Ora formerly known as Canterbury College, has always been a place of history, architecture, and creativity. Our new architecture programme explores the neo-gothic style at The Arts Centre and other architectural design across the world.
For the first time, they are allowing students behind the fences and into the stonemason’s tent, where most of the intricately carved stonework that graces The Arts Centre’s walls is created.
Students will be able to talk to an expert in their field about stonemasonry, one of the oldest professions and art forms in human history. Students will learn what makes a building neo-gothic and embark upon a scavenger hunt trying to find these unique design features. They will come away with a glossary of neo-gothic vocabulary and their own take home hands-on activity. They will also learn about key individuals that are historically linked with The Arts Centre and its buildings.

A walking tour that draws on information from Ngāi Tahu ( Kā Huru Manu cultural mapping website) and Mana Whenua (cultural narratives) particularly for the North West of Christchurch. The hikoi also touches on several features of European history and settlement.
We will begin at Tī Koukā (cabbage trees) beside the Aurora Centre at BHS, walk over to Jellie Park noting significant features, on to the Hereora Springs and back through the native gardens planted at BHS and finally onto where we started. All are welcome and access is suitable for all ages and walking abilities. i.e. there is good access for wheelchairs if necessary.

Mixed Reality (MR) provides new opportunities to transport your learners to new locations (which may be otherwise inaccessible) or to engage them more fully within their own locations (when digital is blended over the physical). While there are many ready-made MR experiences that you can embed into your teaching, this workshop explores how students can create their own MR experiences to support a wide range of learning outcomes.
This event hosted by the DeFL will be an educator focused event exploring the adoption and integration of mixed reality artefacts into the teaching and learning context. The event is open to anyone with an interest in learning about the use and design of these experiences for educational purposes.

Drawing on what was witnessed following the Terrorist Attacks in March 2019, this seminar will look at the role that the outpouring of love and kindness by the people of Aotearoa, and what lessons there are for us and those around the world.

Over multiple days you will learn to model and design taonga pūoro and will walk away with an instrument of your own. We will utilise 3D design software and 3D printers and those who excel may continue to work with us to reimagine taonga pūoro and build new instruments using advanced computer controlled machines and traditional materials.

How can we create meaningful, community connected and intergenerational learning through food, sustainability and the natural environment? This is a critical conversation for people, place and planet. During this zoom conversation our panelists will share some of the projects they are involved with and explore how these create new opportunities for diverse learners.

During this online event, Cantabrian Anna Button, the Communications and Programmes Manager at Hagar New Zealand will share some of the ways in which Hagar is working to reduce slavery and trafficking. This hui has a focus on understanding how Aotearoa is tracking towards achieving the SDGs, conversations on sustainable food production and Te Tiriti and the SDGs.
The event will be made up of panel discussions and interactive workshops. Workshops will cover key topics such as how to implement SDGs in your region, with learnings from the Waikato Wellbeing Project, and building a sustainability culture within your organisation with the Sustainable Business Council.

ShadowTech has evolved! Following six successful years of their existing model where students had the experience of being mentored for a day by tech professionals, they are expanding their reach with this new programme ShadowTech Teachers.
ShadowTech Teachers will give secondary school teachers and career advisors the opportunity to spend half a day with a professional working in the tech industry and get an insight into ‘a day in the life’!

This presentation provides an overview of some of the ways in which they are used and their potential benefits and challenges. We will also explore how some of the principles of game design could be applied to create engaging online learning experiences.
